Fall 2018 Grants

Cara Gilbertson, 8th grade ELA teacher, was awarded $650 for the purchase of 50 copies of Loving vs. Virginia: A Documentary Novel of the Landmark Civil Rights Case. The additional copies allow each student in the class to engage with the text and illustrations. As Ms Gilbertson writes in her application, the novel “enhances our curriculum and gives students another perspective on the importance of taking a stand.” The hardcover copies of this beautiful novel will be used in classrooms for years to come.

High school English teacher Jessica O’Connor was awarded up to $700 to help with the registration fees for a group of high school girls to attend Camp United Nations for Girls. The students will learn about the United Nations, be assigned a country to research, and write a position paper. The project provides leadership opportunities and strengthens students’ research and verbal skills.

(Update: Unfortunately, the camp was rescheduled to a date that conflicted with the busy students schedules.

OEF is being refunded, and the money will be used for future grants.)
